Apple is supposed to announce the long-awaited iPhone (and iPod touch) SDK on Thursday. However, apparently some leaks came out about what to expect. The unsurprising rumor is that iTunes will be used to purchase and install third party applications, all of which will have to be approved by Apple, according to ars technica. These or similar measures were expected, due to Apple's stated concern over viruses and other forms of malware that are beginning to rear their heads in mobile devices.

On the other hand, MacRumors mentioned that these restrictions may only be applied to commercial iPhone software, indicating the possibility that Apple may not try to restrict free applications at all. Ultimately, we will have to wait until Thursday to find out what's really going on...
